It’s been a year at my new job, and one thing I have struggled with at the beginning was doubting my worth. Imposter syndrome knocked hard on my door!
According to Cambridge Dictionary: “Imposter Syndrome is feeling that your achievements are not real or you don’t deserve praise or success”.
I had been doing the same role for a couple of years now, and the only difference is I moved into consulting services, which meant working with multiple clients at the same time.
Each day, I felt as if I had no clue what I was doing until the day I decided to change the narrative of doubting myself. Everyone saw something great in my work, so I figured it was high time I believed in myself.
Six ways to overcome Imposter Syndrome at work
- Say something positive to yourself, for example:” Anu, you’re awesome; you have everything required to make this work”.
- Remember that you were employed because you have the skill required to do the job.
- Stop trying to be perfect and liked by everyone.
- Invest in self-development.
- Choose to be confident.
- Have people that can cheer you up outside of work and a network of supporters at work.
Remember that you’re smart and you’ve got everything required to conquer the world.
Have a great week.
